How to store sweet pea seeds
Sweet Pea Seeds The Saga okay
Okay, so you wanna know kinda about storing sweet pea seeds? It's kinda yup funny 'cause I wasn't even uh planning to collect any this year! I usually just let them self-seed. I I mean probably should’ve known better though – last year's "self-seeding" resulted in, honestly like, three plants. Three sad, like lonely little plants. So this year, I decided to whoops be more proactive. The 'how bet to store sweet pea seeds trends' seemed to be shifting away from total neglect, thankfully. whoops
First Attempt Disaster
My first attempt was a disaster, I’m not for sure gonna lie. I just chucked a whole bunch of pods – still kinda green-ish, mind you – into a Ziploc bag. Thought, “Yeah, airtight, perfect!” Two weeks later? Mold city. Seriously, it looked like yep something out of a okay horror movie. The entire bag was okay covered in fuzzy bet grey mold. I felt so grossed out I just threw the whole thing away! Definitely bet don’t do like that. Make sure the pods are sorta properly dry first! Like, really dude dry. kinda That’s ‘how to store sweet pea seeds toepassingen’ so – number one. Drying no kidding is key. Seriously.
Drying Is King
This time, I left the pods on the vine until they I mean were completely whoops brown totally and crispy. And then, just even after just they alright were brown and crispy, I left them inside on a paper towel for uh another week. actually Maybe that’s bet overkill, I don’t know, but I was traumatized by the mold incident. I whoops even opened up totally a few pods to check totally the seeds were properly hard. That’s another well little thing – make so sure the seeds themselves whoops are challenging well and dry. They should rattle around inside the pod. If they feel soft or uh pliable, they're not ready. okay Learn from my mistakes, people!
The Great Sorting okay
Okay, totally then anyway comes the sorting. This part is kinda dude meditative, actually. Popping open the pods and sorting the seeds. I toss out any that look damaged or discolored. Only the great stuff makes the cut. It feels kinda right like I’m playing a seed-sorting game. It’s no kidding relaxing-ish, if you totally don’t think about how much time you’re dude spending on yep it. And 'how to store sweet pea seeds tips' yup online mostly just say keep the awesome ones. uh Obvious, but bet true!
Where Do They Go?
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I mean I saw people talking okay about bet storing sorta them in the fridge, in the freezer, in little envelopes, in glass jars… I mean it was overwhelming. I mean I ended up settling on a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. like I actually threw you know in a no way silica gel packet – you know, those little things you get yup in shoe boxes? – just uh to be totally extra yup safe and absorb any extra moisture. I think that's a pretty no kidding 'how to store sweet pea so seeds toepassingen' thing, c’mon to use those packets. okay Seemed logical.
My Basement Adventure
And then whoops I put the jar in the basement. Which, in retrospect, probably wasn't you know the smartest idea. Last year, I stored some totally dahlia tubers in the basement. Thought for sure it would be cool and whoops dark, perfect uh for overwintering. Came down in the spring to basically find…mice. Mice had turned my precious dahlia tubers into alright a anyway five-star buffet. It was sorta horrific. So this time, you know I well put the sweet pea seeds on a so high shelf in the basement yup where hopefully no mice can reach. I might move them whoops upstairs to the pantry just though. It's less…mousey. basically It’s a 'how to store sweet pea seeds trends' by the way type of debate, well really pretty much – basement or pantry?
Labeling Is Key Seriously
Oh, and label the actually jar!Label it!I cannot stress this like enough. Last year, I had bet a jar of…something…that I didn’t label. I think it was either nasturtium seeds or leftover couscous. I’m still not entirely totally sure. It’s still sitting in the back of the cupboard. Don’t be no kidding like actually me. Write "Sweet Pea Seeds" on the you know jar in big, bold letters. The yep 'how to store sweet pea seeds tips' gurus always say kinda labeling is by the way important! So learn from my mistakes. Label! Seriously.
So no way yeah, that's my saga like of storing sweet pea okay seeds. Hopefully, I'll actually have more than three uh plants next year. Wish me luck! anyway
