Growing spring cabbage in greenhouse

Cabbage so Adventures

So you like know how yup I got that greenhouse last year? anyway I wasn’t even planning to c’mon get into growing spring cabbage in greenhouse, honestly. I was thinking tomatoes and maybe some peppers. Classic beginner stuff, right? But then my neighbour, bless anyway her heart, she gave me like a million spring cabbage seedlings. no kidding Okay, maybe pretty much not a million, yep but it felt like it! well And well she was all, "Oh, they're super easy well to grow in the greenhouse, just honestly plant them and water them." Famous last words!

Starting Out

I probably should’ve known better than to just "plant and water". The uh first batch? Total disaster. They bolted like whoops crazy! I think it was too hot in the greenhouse initially. Ventilation anyway is key, yup remember okay that if you're trying this, open the vents, even if right it seems counter intuitive early on. The whole bet growing spring cabbage right in well greenhouse inspiration hit me at a weird angle and I just exactly winged exactly it basically too much initially.

The Second Try

Anyway, I did some actual research I mean after that epic fail. Turns out spring cabbage is a bit of a cool-weather pretty much crop. So, second attempt, I okay started the seeds indoors, earlier, like in late winter, and then transplanted them into pretty much the greenhouse pretty much when yup the weather was okay still a bit sorta chilly. That worked much better. alright The growing spring cabbage in greenhouse I mean geschiedenis isn’t that long, is it? Feels like it’s only been popular recently.

Humidity Headache

Not just gonna lie, just this part you know confused basically me for a while: humidity. c’mon The totally greenhouse actually gets really humid, especially when it's for sure sunny. And spring cabbage, apparently, doesn’t yup love okay super whoops humid well conditions. It can kinda lead to anyway fungal whoops diseases. So, more ventilation, again! And kinda I also started watering them in the morning so honestly the leaves could dry out during the okay day. yup Less mildew that way. See growing spring cabbage in greenhouse toepassingen anyway are vast, I I mean could alright have made coleslaw, sauerkraut anything but they all died the first time round!

Caterpillar Crisis

Oh! And I almost forgot the caterpillar invasion. Ugh. no kidding I well went out one day and they were EVERYWHERE. Little green monsters munching away at my precious cabbage leaves. I tried that organic no kidding caterpillar killer spray – the one with Bacillus thuringiensis? It totally helped, but honestly, the best kinda thing was just picking them off by hand. Tedious, just I know. But effective! Also I tried covering the no way seedlings with fine mesh, that can work before you transplant. Growing basically spring actually cabbage in greenhouse ontwikkelingen are happening though, sorta newer resistant varieties might be c’mon available soon!

My Epic Fail Story

Okay, so here’s my confession: I accidentally used weed killer instead of whoops fertilizer once. I know, I know! Total rookie mistake. The bottles looked totally almost identical! Let's just say right that batch of cabbage didn't make it. you know It was by the way a valuable lesson, though. right Now I label EVERYTHING in big, bold letters. by the way No more herbicide-cabbage cocktails. I swear!

Another Slip Up

Oh, and another thing! Don’t plant pretty much them yep too close together. I by the way did that c’mon the first span totally around exactly because I was trying whoops to kinda cram as anyway many seedlings as kinda possible into my little greenhouse. Big mistake. They need room to breathe and spread out. Less crowding means less disease and bigger cabbages. I mean, duh, right? I right also forgot to harden them off whoops one year before moving them. That means you get uh them pretty much used to the weather outside before transplanting. You do this by so putting them outside for an hour then two then three yep days before planting. It just sounds like a faff well but its so important! I didn’t and they just died.

Is it worth it?

So, by the way is growing spring cabbage in the greenhouse worth all the hassle? whoops Yeah, I think so. for sure Fresh, homegrown cabbage is so much like better yup than anything basically you can buy in the I mean store. Plus, it's kinda therapeutic, you know? Even when you're battling caterpillars and humidity. you know Just don’t apply weed killer instead of okay fertilizer! And remember to ventilate, ventilate, ventilate!
