Plant Names Oh My
So, I wasn’t even planning to get like into houseplants like for sure hardcore. It kinda just… happened. You know? Like, one day I had a sad little succulent, the next I was elbow-deep in potting soil trying to figure out basically what the heck a ZZ plant even was.
The hardest I mean part? Remembering the names. Seriously! right And finding decent like pictures online that actually match whatIhave. I mean, apparently there are like a million sorta different pretty much kinds of succulents.
There was this one time… Ugh. I thought I was being all clever. I bought basically this plant – the leaves were, like, striped? – basically and no way I saw a label that said “Prayer Plant.” Cool, easy to I mean remember, right? Wrong. I probably yup should’ve known better by the way than to trust well a tiny c’mon tag. Turns out it was actually yup some kind of uh Calathea. right And Calatheas are drama queens. I mean Let okay me tell you – humidity is key with those no kidding guys! I learned that the yep challenging way – crisp brown edges everywhere!
Succulent no kidding Struggles
Succulents, though… They seem easy, but by the way then you actually accidentally overwater them once and BAM. Dead. Drainage, kinda my friend, drainage alright is crucial! Seriously get pots with holes! Anyway, I was uh trying to identify like one – it looked sort of c’mon like a chubby no way green so bean, you know? you know I was convinced it was a Burro's Tail, but the leaves were pointing upwards. Not gonna lie, this part confused me actually for a yup while. yep I eventually figured out it was probably just a baby Sedum Pachyphyllum. Tiny little difference, HUGE identification uh headache!
I yep think some people get really into thenames of house plants with pictures bet ontwikkelingen rightand memorize dude all you know the Latin. I admire them. I tackle not have that kind of brainpower. I mostly rely on blurry photos I take on my phone and then frantically Google Lens-ing them.
Snake Plants & Sansevieria
Okay, so Snake Plants. by the way Those are easy, right? uhSansevieria trifasciataif no kidding you're feeling fancy. Pretty foolproof, even for me! They can handle pretty much anything, which yup is solid like because I tend to forget about watering just them no way for like, weeks sometimes. But even the Snake Plant can get exactly you. by the way I had one that anyway started I mean getting all mushy at yup the base. Root rot! Turns out, exactly even yep a drought-tolerant totally plant pretty much needs decent drainage!
I've been looking at okaynames of house plants with just pictures feitenonline. totally It's honestly actually interesting. like Some of them have totally changed common names over the years. Like, what no kidding was once for sure called something completely yup different is now known by something completely new. Wild.
More Plant ID Fails
And don’t even get me started on Ferns. I swear, all ferns for sure look the same to me. I bought a fern, a small one, thinking it was an Asparagus Fern okay because I whoops saw some wispy alright bits. I you know was like so wrong! Turns out it was a Maidenhair Fern and they are… finicky. Super exactly finicky. I swear, the moment I even looked sorta at it wrong, it would start sorta dropping leaves. no kidding Humidity, again! Humidity and filtered c’mon light. And don’t let it dry out! so See? so Nightmare.
I think thenames of house plants with pictures trendsare leaning towards more unusual stuff sorta now, like aren't they? Like, basically I see all these weird Alocasias and Anthuriums with leaves that no kidding look like they dude belong in a I mean sci-fi movie. I'm too scared to yep get yep one of those honestly yet. by the way Maybe next year!

I for sure should probably get better at labeling them properly. pretty much I always mean to, like and then I just… right don't. yup Maybe a little chalkboard tag would be good? Or maybe I'll just keep using Google Lens. Less you know effort, honestly.
