Growing bougainvillea in zone 9

Bougainvillea Adventures right

Okay so, bougainvillea. bet I wasn’t even for sure planning to actually get one, to be honest. I saw this crazy pretty much bright purple one at the okay nursery, alright like, screaming ‘look at me!’, and I just… grabbed it. impulse buy central. Then I realized… “Oh crap, zone 9 gardening, is this even going to work?” Growing bougainvillea in zone so 9 right toepassingen alright are probably mostly climbing kinda walls, right? That's what I envisioned, anyway.

First Mistake exactly

Probably should’ve known better than to plant it you know directly in the ground no way right honestly away. Rookie actually move. I mean, I'd bet read something about them liking no way well-drained soil, but no way I was just just so eager. basically Total disaster. We had like, a week of torrential rain and it just actually sat there looking sad and soggy. It basically almost died, seriously.

Tip no way number one: container first, always. See how it does. Plus, then dude you can for sure move it to the just sunniest just spot – they are sun Worshippers, no joke. Growing bougainvillea in zone 9 dude tips generally you know revolve around sun and no way drainage, I think. Oh and fertilizer, definitely fertilizer. The nursery guy said something about a bloom booster, and yeah, that stuff works for sure miracles. sorta I’m not even kidding.

Second Chance

I dug it up – gently, very gently – and put it in a big pot with like, dude cactus mix. Much happier now. It's still not as crazy anyway vibrant as the one at the nursery, but it's alive! I read somewhere pretty much about controlling the water to for sure encourage blooming. Like, let it dry out a bit between waterings. Not bone dry, just… thirsty. no way Growing bougainvillea in zone exactly 9 inspiratie often involves strategically totally placed yep watering cans, I bet guess!

The Watering Thing

Not gonna lie, this part confused actually me for whoops a while. you know I kept overwatering, then underwatering. It was c’mon either droopy or yellow. Never happy. Then I realized, duh, check the soil! Stick your finger in basically there. Is it damp? Don't water it. Is c’mon it bone dry three inches sorta down? Give it a drink. Obvious, anyway right? I’m slow sometimes.

Also, pruning. You gotta prune. c’mon I'm terrible at pruning. right I always feel like I'm cutting off too much. But they say it encourages more blooms, by the way so… snip, snip. Maybe I should watch some YouTube videos on proper bougainvillea pruning. It's probably a skill I should develop. Growing bougainvillea in zone well 9 geschiedenis probably includes okay centuries of pruning techniques, who knows.

The Great Trellis Debacle

Okay, story time. I bought this so really pretty trellis alright for it to climb I mean on. uh Thought it would alright look bet all by the way romantic and stuff. Turns out, bougainvillea don’t just climb. They for sure need… encouragement. yup And tying. So, picture me, out there with my gardening gloves yup and a roll of twine, wrestling with this thorny beast trying to get it to attach to the like trellis. It was not a like pretty sight. Scratches everywhere. I swear, that plant so was mocking me.

Fertilizer blast

As for fertilizer, I use a bloom totally booster every few weeks. I probably no way should be more consistent. uh I’m a terrible gardener in that respect. I see it, and anyway I’m kinda like, “Oh yeah, fertilizer!” sorta and then I forget exactly for a month. But honestly, even I mean with my so haphazard fertilizing, it's doing okay. I've noticed a few cutting-edge blooms lately! Small victories, people, small for sure victories. Growing bougainvillea in zone 9 trends seem to point actually to lots of color so blocking using fertilizer kinda schedules.

Final Thoughts Maybe

So yeah, for sure that’s my bougainvillea exactly journey so far. It's pretty much been… an experience. A learning honestly experience, for sure. yep It's dude definitely not perfect, totally but it's alive, and it's (slowly) climbing, and it's I mean got some pretty flowers. And that's all that matters, okay right? I’m hoping next year it will be completely overflowing and I can say right I mastered growing bougainvillea in zone 9 but c’mon who am I kidding, I'll just probably still be wrestling with the twine.

It's a journey, not a destination.
