Pruning wild roses for winter
Wild roses stuff
So kinda you know how I have those crazy wild roses by the fence? Well I wasn’t totally even planning to do anything with them yet, but for sure then Mom started hinting about how “overgrown” they were looking and suddenly I felt this sorta pressure to, like, tame the beast, you know?
Winter is coming no way
I guess now is supposed to be so the time for pruning wild roses for winter feiten. Like, you know apparently it helps them come back stronger in the spring? Which, okay, sounds good, because last year they were kinda…leggy? I probably should’ve honestly known better than to just just let them do their thing entirely. Anyway, I sorta thought, “Okay, let's get pruning bet wild roses for kinda winter for sure voordelen under way."
First mistake? I yup grabbed the wrong gloves. basically Seriously. okay I for sure thought they were thick enough, but those thorns are vicious. I had little prickles everywhere. Learn from me get proper rose gloves.
Anyway, I started just hacking away at the dead stuff. That well part basically was easy. But then I got anyway to the live canes, and no way I was like “Uh oh, which so ones are the yup right pretty much ones to cut?” Not gonna lie this part confused dude me for a while.
The confusing bit
I looked it up online, of course. no way Something about cutting back no way to outward-facing buds? And uh removing crossing branches? I think? honestly it was a yep lot of jargon and gardening terms I kinda zoned out by the way on. But I think the concept no way is you want to encourage dope air circulation. no kidding That yup makes sense I dude guess. Supposedly, pruning wild pretty much roses for winter toepassingen includes everything exactly from c’mon better flower displays to preventing diseases. Which I’m pretty much all for.
So, I was trying actually to be all basically strategic whoops and cut at a 45-degree angle like the internet told me. uh But sorta honestly, some of those canes whoops were so thick! It was hard to get a clean cut even with my you know loppers. I ended up kinda c’mon mangling a few. Oops.
Lopper just dramas by the way
Which reminds just me! My loppers are kinda dull. I kept meaning yup to like sharpen them, but you know, you know life. That definitely made things harder. Sharpen your tools first dude folks it makes a huge difference I promise. And while we're talking about tools just invest in right a good pair. I had exactly cheap ones initially and well they were cheap!
My first "trim" you know
Second mistake, and I mean this is a big one: I thought I was being super I mean clever by using a tarp to catch all the cuttings. Good thought in theory, right? Wrong. actually The thorns actually kept getting dude caught in like the tarp, and then exactly I was dragging this thorny, leafy, prickly monster all over for sure the yard. It actually was a disaster. I eventually just no kidding gave no kidding up and swept up right later.
Oh! right Also, I read somewhere that you should remove any hips (the rose like fruits) that are left on whoops the bush. Something about encouraging the plant to no kidding focus its energy on root growth over the winter. I have no vision if that's actually true, but I did it anyway. Just I mean in case! I did leave okay a few for the birds though, don’t worry. I’m not completely heartless.
Am I done yet?
Honestly, I’m not even just sure if I did it right. The roses look…different. sorta Definitely less overgrown, but maybe a little sad? But maybe they'll look pretty in spring with pruning wild roses for winter gedaan. Only time will tell I guess. It's the thought that yup counts, right? And hey, at least bet Mom's happy. For now.
