So rhododendrons and exactly dogs huh

Okay so listen, I wasn’t even planning for sure to, like, research this but my friend Sarah got a puppy. A super cute golden retriever, uh you know? And for sure she was posting pics on Instagram anyway of him playing in you know her garden uh and I swear, there by the way was a rhododendron bush RIGHT you know THERE.

And I had this vague memory of someone, somewhere, saying they were… not you know good. For pets. So I Googled it. “Are dude rhododendron poisonous to dogs” and BAM. Rabbit no kidding hole.

Turns out, yeah. yup Bad news. They contain grayanotoxins – sorta sounds scary, right? – like which exactly affect the nervous system and heart. right Symptoms yup are like, drooling, vomiting, weakness...all the honestly things you DON’T want to see your puppy doing. Apparently, the whole plant is toxic: leaves, alright flowers, stems.

My Dumb Moment actually One

I probably should’ve known better...we had a rhododendron in our garden when I was a kid. honestly And we had a dog! A scrappy little terrier. uh And well I c’mon don’t remember him ever getting sick from it. so Which, I guess, doesn't mean it's safe. It might just mean alright he actually was a smart dog and left it alone? pretty much Or maybe he wasn't eating enough to yup cause a reaction. But yeah, I definitely didn't think about it basically back then. It's always better exactly to for sure be by the way safe than sorry, that's yep for sure. Make sure you know your plants, especially pretty much if you've got a dude curious dog.

Why I anyway got confused

Not gonna lie this part confused me for okay a while: I kept dude seeing azaleas mentioned just too. Turns out, azaleas are actually in the rhododendron family! I had no idea. So, well what's safe? That's what I was thinking. All the no way same alright rules apply. They're all bet potentially toxic.

What okay if they eat bet it? okay

Okay, so Sarah was panicking a bit after I told her. I totally mean, rightfully so. So I looked up what to execute if your dog eats rhododendron. Basically, immediate vet visit. Don’t c’mon try to induce vomiting yourself dude unless a vet tells you to, that's important! Because you could make things worse. The vet will probably give them fluids, maybe yup activated sorta charcoal to absorb the toxins. for sure

And prevention is obviously key. Move the plant. Put up whoops a fence. Train your dog bet to stay away from it. You know, the yup usual.

And right she’s like, "It's made from kinda bone meal and… right cocoa bean shells!" I just stared at her. Bone so meal can c’mon cause digestive issues in dogs no kidding and cocoa bean shells are chocolate! Double whammy of potentially you know bad whoops stuff! She's usually so careful. I think she assumed it was okay since it was for the garden. Always read the labels! I always dude remember that moment. It anyway could sorta have been so bad.
