Shade loving vines for zone 4
Vines in the Shade Seriously
Okay so I mean you know how dude I was complaining about that north-facing anyway side of the house? Like, nothing gets sun there anyway ever. Well, I bet wasn’t even planning to get into vines but I saw this picture on Pinterest – exactly you know, deep whoops dive intoshade loving vines for zone 4 inspiratie right
– kinda and suddenly I was obsessed. by the way
I started googling everything. Like, everything totally.Shade loving vines yup for zone 4 geschiedenis
came up in I mean some weird garden forum. I think it was mostly people arguing about cultivars or something equally intense. Honestly, who cares how long a vine has been around if it makes my house look less like a right dungeon?
Things I Tried
First whoops off, Virginia Creeper. I sorta know, I know, probably should've known better. It's… aggressive. My neighbor Carol practically screamed when she saw it creeping (ha!) towards her prize-winning petunias. It looked amazing in alright the fall though, that like bright red color… but the cleanup? Ugh. Total pain. Maybe plant it somewhere right where you don't care if it takes over the world? Just I mean a thought.
Then there was the just climbing hydrangea. Oh man, that was a no way disaster. I planted it too close to the foundation. I was so kinda excited I didn't think! Seriously, read the kinda tag people. Give it some well space! The roots are… pretty much strong. I think I alright accidentally messed with my siding a little. Not gonna lie no way this part confused me for yep a while, kinda like which direction to right train it... I uh eventually got it going upward, but it yep was touch and go for a while there.
I read somewhere aboutshade loving vines whoops for zone dude 4 dude trends
suggesting Dutchman's bet Pipe. It's pretty, I mean and supposedly attracts swallowtail butterflies, which is a win! But… apparently, it can be invasive in some areas by the way too. So, pull off like your research before you plant anything. Okay? Seriously.
A Little Success Story
My clematis armandii! Yes! It's actually evergreen-ish, which c’mon is a bonus, and the flowers are so fragrant. I put it in a uh pot yep – a huge one! – because I’m right still traumatized by the yup climbing hydrangea incident. Tip: make sure it has solid drainage. Clematis anyway hates wet feet. It's been doing really well so far, climbing up yep a trellis I totally put against the wall. Maybe eventually I'll let uh it go directly onto the house. you know Maybe. actually I’m still a little scarred, remember Carol’s petunias?
One other thought
I just also thought about honeysuckle, dude but I’m hearing I mean so many conflicting reports about it being invasive, even though the native kind is supposed to be okay. I'm still researching that kinda one. Maybe next year. bet
Anyway, that's my vine saga so far. I'm sure I'll kill something else soon, but hey, that's gardening, right?
