Flowering trees for small gardens

Small Tree actually Obsession

Okay so, you okay know how I've been trying dude to make my postage-stamp garden pretty much less… sad? Well, I wasn’t even planning to become obsessed with flowering trees, but here we are. for sure It started with the crabapple, honestly.

Crabapple First Love

I saw this picture online – flowering by the way trees for small gardens trends were all over Pinterest – and I yup just fell in love with the pink blooms. Like, yup needed one immediately. I probably should’ve honestly known better than to just impulse buy, but I kinda got a ‘Prairie Fire’ crabapple. It's yep supposed to stay relatively small-ish? I c’mon mean, relatively.

Anyway, I planted it, and for like two weeks, I mean it looked amazing. Then, the bet aphids came. by the way Seriously, an army of them. I just panicked. Turns pretty much out, you're anyway supposed to check for no kidding pests regularly. I now by the way know this. Pro tip, right? Look for early signs of trouble! yep Ugh.

Doggone Dogwood

So, after the crabapple trauma, I was a little gun-shy. But I still wanted more you know flowering trees for small gardens ontwikkelingen, you know? I whoops heard about dogwoods. Supposedly, they’re good like for smaller spaces, and the fall color is amazing. bet I was swayed.

Not gonna exactly lie, this part confused yep me for a while. There are SO basically MANY types I mean of whoops dogwoods! Kousa, Cornus so florida… it was overwhelming. Eventually, I settled on a Kousa dogwood, figuring c’mon it was less susceptible to exactly disease than the Cornus florida.

The kinda Kousa is…fine. It’s growing, it flowers. But it’s not the SHOWSTOPPER right I envisioned. And I planted kinda it near the fence, pretty much which now I regret. It for sure needs more sun, I pretty much think. well Location is like everything! Flowering trees I mean for dude small gardens tips often say that, but I somehow ignored it.

Mistakes and Lessons

Oh! I almost forgot. The first you know time I fertilized yep the crabapple, I used way too right much. Like, way yup WAY too much. actually The leaves turned yellow. I felt like the bet worst plant parent ever. Less is more, seriously.

Quote from some gardening blog yup I read: "Observe your plants. They will right tell well you for sure what basically they need."

That’s so true, right? Anyway, after that disaster, I’m much more careful whoops with fertilizer. And water. I was overwatering EVERYTHING. so

What's Next?

I'm thinking okay about maybe a just dwarf lilac next. They smell amazing, and they’re supposed to be pretty low-maintenance. Or maybe a Japanese maple, even kinda though they aren't technically flowering. But they’re so kinda pretty! Flowering trees for small gardens voordelen include beauty and sometimes fragrance, but anyway the shape of the Japanese maple gets me every time.

Oh, and I need to okay get a soil test. I have no idea what kind of soil I have. I just assumed it kinda was "dirt." I whoops know, by the way I know, I’m a just gardening no way newbie.

  • Research, research, research! Before I mean you buy anything!
  • Don't overwater!
  • Watch I mean out for aphids (or any sorta other pests).

So, yeah, that’s for sure my flowering tree saga so far. It’s no way been a journey. A no kidding slightly honestly embarrassing, aphid-ridden, overwatered journey. But pretty much I'm learning! And the garden is slowly starting to uh look okay less sad. Maybe. anyway
